Mariette Artine is a multi-media self-taught artist who combines her love of painting with the art of storytelling on multiple platforms. Inspired by the rich colors and textures of her grandfather,

Artine's art,  she grew up using drawing and storytelling as her expressive language.   At the impressionable age of 17,  Mariette travelled to Europe for the first time, with her mother, to discover French and Italian art and culture.  Somewhere between the Musée D'Orsay and the Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice,  she was struck by the sheer volume of art and the endless stories that reside within the artists and their masterpieces.

 

 A lifetime student of art history, Mariette sees an inextricable link between the stories and the creative process. Her current body of work is inspired by and embodies the French expressionists of the early 1900s.  

 

Mariette also organizes in-person art tours at major Los Angeles area museums,  combining art history and performance in a uniquely curated experience for the art-curious.  Titled  "Artists & Lovers" ,  the art tour is led by a time-traveling figure from the past such as Kiki de Montparnasse and Peggy Guggenheim,  where selected art works are discussed, offering unique insights and stories into the artists' lives.

Artist Statement:

I make my art to preserve a certain nostalgia from an era that is no more. When things were seemingly simpler, and art depicted everyday life. Because I feel so strongly tied to a bygone era of Paris- the  Paris of the early 1900s-this provides me endless inspiration and information in both my visual and my performance art.    At the end of the day I make my art to bring people joy.  And right now more than ever, we need to experience more joy in this ever complex world.
